MATT CAMERON | COACH
Matt Cameron's journey spans nearly a decade as an Elite BMX rider for New Zealand on the prestigious World Cup circuit, where he not only competed but also cultivated a deep-seated passion for mentoring fellow riders. With an innate ability to analyse rider techniques and foster individual progress, Matt seamlessly transitioned from athlete to coach, driven by a profound vision.
This vision led to the creation of MC Race Academy, aimed at delivering top-tier BMX coaching on a global scale. Season after season, Matt collaborates closely with national and international riders and federations, dedicated to enhancing BMX fundamentals and shaping promising career pathways.
As a two-time Olympic Coach (Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024), Matt has had the honour of guiding athletes on the world stage, contributing significantly to their success and development in the sport.
"My coaching journey began in 2011 after a successful career racing Elite BMX, both domestically and internationally, achieving milestones at world championships, World Cups, and national titles. The passion, dedication, and focus that fueled my competitive years now drive my coaching career.
At the elite level, I thrive on dissecting the intricacies of performance, identifying areas for growth, and reconstructing riders with a holistic approach. In developmental coaching, I prioritise establishing strong foundational skills—both physical and mental—while challenging riders in every session to embrace setbacks as opportunities for growth.
Throughout my coaching evolution, I've come to realise that BMX coaching transcends physical prowess and technical proficiency; it's about nurturing resilience, accountability, and lifelong learning. By fostering this environment, riders not only excel on the bike but also develop invaluable skills for life beyond the sport."
